Pohanka has recently taken a new non-profit under its wings. Stop the Violence of Wicomico County, Inc. is in the beginning stages of providing children on the East side of Salisbury with activities to do after school and during the summer. With the hopes of one day becoming a Boy’s and Girls Club of America this fearless group of adults are working together to make this dream a reality.
Recently Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury and the Dempsey family of businesses have helped to sponsor a Logo contest. Area middle school, high school and college students were asked to enter a logo into the contest. 36 submissions were received and after a long process of elimination finally one was chosen. The winner of a brand new I-Pad 2 was a Salisbury University student named Taylyn Furman. “Taylyn’s logo was the best logo out of the bunch, it encompassed exactly what we as a group were looking for in a logo” stated Nina East, Publicity chair. When asked to explain why she chose to enter this logo Taylyn said “the S and the V were combined to form a figurative ‘valley’ to the “new horizon” a child can see by involving themselves with Stop the Violence of Wicomico County. The sun implies happiness and warmth, which is the opposite of violence.”
Stop the Violence of Wicomico County’s mission is to create a safe and enjoyable environment for area youth by working together with caring individuals and providing programs designed to enrich lives and build healthy and responsible young adults. “With this mission and a group of local people committed to helping our area youth and businesses like Pohanka behind this endeavor there is no way we can fail” stated Nancy Rendine, STV President.
Sandy Angello Vice President/Dealer Operator of Pohanka Automotive Group is sitting on the board of directors and has generously donated all proceeds from this years Mercedes Benz Dealer championship to the group. The golf tournament will take place at Rum Pointe in Ocean City, Maryland on July 25, 2011.
